Plagiarism

Those of you who know me also know I like to write fan fiction as well. Mainly from the Dragon Age video games. It came to my attention today that one of those stories, Broken, a short story told by the character Fenris about his complicated relationship with my PC (player character) Alexandria Hawke, was posted on another site without my permission. A lovely young lady messaged me on deviantART, one of the sites the story resides (the other place being facebook), asking me if I was Emma Shepard. After browsing my gallery, she saw I do not do the Mass Effect games (The PC's last name in those games is Shepard) thus she asked me if I'd given Emma Shepard permission to post it and provided me with the link. I saw Broken was indeed on that site and without any credit whatsoever to me. Thus I have reported her for plagiarism.

Now those that know me, know that I'm not easily riled and it takes a lot to get on my bad side. And yes, I do have a bad side. Stealing something I wrote, even if the world and character belongs to Bioware, is something that will put you there easily. And for the record, when I write fan fiction or use a character that belongs to someone else, I clearly state who they belong to. Emma Shepard did not do that. If she had asked for permission first, I may have allowed it as long as she credited me for it. And even without permission, if she had credited me I would not be so pissed off about it.

And I will say this, if Emma Shepard was a writer at all, she would respect another writer's work.

Lesson of the day:

DON'T STEAL OTHER PEOPLE'S CREATIVE WORKS!

Out of Hiding

I don't even remember the last time I updated this. Not that anyone has noticed as I barely have any followers, but I digress. I am back with my view of the world.

Ok I just checked and I haven't been seen since the Halloween Special...

Well I do have an excuse for Nov. I participated in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and I was completely focused on that for the Month of Nov. As that was my first NaNo, I was actually surprised that I reached the 50,000 word goal and then some. (I finished with over 68,000). And I will be participating again in Nov of this year.

Of course, Dec is always our busy month with folks going out of town and leaving their critters and the critters eating stuff they shouldn't...

I really have no excuse for Jan and most of this month aside from working on edits for my novels...

Until next time

TRUE GHOST STORIES

Where my aunt lives, there is a military camp. Behind the walls of the camp is a Banyan (also known as Peepal in Hindi) tree. As she was sitting on her roof on a beautiful sunshine filled winter day, she saw someone or something climbing the branches of the tree. She knew it wasn't one of the soldiers as it wasn't wearing a uniform and no one else seemed to see it. It frightened her and she felt that it was an evil spirit climbing in that tree. She ran from the roof and into her room in no time flat. This happened sometime ago.

TRUE GHOST STORIES

I used to live in a big house and every time I came out of the bathroom or my bedroom I would bump into a blond woman wearing a white nightgown. This happened for months before my mom told me she would also bump into the woman and thought she was me. We looked at one another, surprised that we'd been seeing the same thing and then had the same thought: We had a ghost in the house.

TRUE GHOST STORIES

My family once lived in a big house in north central Arkansas. One this particular day, my nephew was over and we were playing hide and seek. I was hiding in the office that connected to the living room. He couldn't find me, so I jumped out and scared him. He ran into the kitchen and I followed him. I was completely out of the office and one the other side of the living room close to the kitchen when I heard something behind me. I turned just in time to see the antenna come off the TV and come flying towards me. It hit me in the eye before I could react. I was scared to be in the living room by myself after that. This wasn't my first experience in that house. I had always felt that there was something in the house but after the antenna incident, I felt that whatever was there was after me for some reason.

Perfume

With Halloween right around the corner, I made a call among my friends for their true ghost stories. So far, I have four stories, including one of my own.

Now I present to you the first of these stories

TRUE GHOST STORIES

I work night security in a government building that is over 100 years old. I've had several experiences I can't explain. Including one I had very recently.

One night as I was doing my rounds long after the cleaning crew had left for the night, I unlocked and entered one of the offices to check it... and walked face first into a mist of perfume. I could still see the mist particles in my flashlight's beam as if it had just been sprayed. Unperplexed, I simply said, "That's a nice scent. What is that?" Of course, I didn't get an answer back. At least that I heard.

GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES!!!!

Yes, I said it! Wondering what prompted such a title?

Stupid Hunger Games "fans"

I consider myself a fan of the series but jeeze, people, if you read the book like you claimed, then it shouldn't surprise you when they cast a character based on the description in the book.

Quick synopsis: The Hunger Games takes place in a future after the US has crumbled and the lands that one made up the US is renamed Panem and divided into 13 Districts surrounding a Capital. After a huge rebellion, District 13 is destroyed and the Capital, to keep the remaining Districts in line, starts the Hunger Games. This requires each District to supply two Tributes, a boy and a girl between 12 and 18, that are randomly selected to fight each other to the death. 24 go in. 1 comes out.

In the book, both Rue, a 12 year old Tribute from District 11 and her male counter part (not sure of his age) are described as having "dark brown skin and eyes"* (Cinna's, Katniss's Stylist, skin isn't mentioned in the book so he was free range)

In the movie, Rue is played by Amandla Stenberg (Columbiana). Thresh is played by Dayo Okeniyi (this is his first major film) and Cinna is played by Lenny Kravitz (yes the "American Woman" singer)

Enter the so-called fans

They are all upset because the three characters are played by black actors. Uh, were you not paying attention when you read the book? Now When I read the book, I actually pictured Cinna as black. But I digress.

But the reactions of all these people to the fact that *gasp* a black character is portrayed by a *gasp* black actress is just flipping ridiculous. Who cares? The characters in the book were portrayed exactly how the author described them. Usually people are throwing hissy fits because a book to film isn't like the book. But they're throwing fits because a beloved character is black.

I love little Rue. She's such a sweetheart and such an innocent character. Tears are shed over this little girl, yours truly included. And it upsets people because this little girl they cried over is black?

Racism is still alive and kicking, unfortunately.

And this really pisses the Ice Queen off
